1. What (Apa/Apakah)
What digunakan untuk menanyakan suatu benda atau hal. Adapun contoh penggunaannya adalah sebagai berikut.

• What is your name? (Siapa nama ibumu?)
• What did your mom cook yesterday? (Apa yang dimasak ibumu kemarin?)
• What do you do on the weekend? (Apa yang kamu lakukan di akhir pekan?)
• What will they wear tomorrow? (Apa yang akan mereka kenakan besok?)

Selain itu, kita juga bisa membuat kalimat tanya seperti di bawah ini dengan meletakkan objek atau noun setelah “what”.

• What time is it? (Jam berapakah ini?)
• What day is it? (Hari apakah ini?)
• What kind of music do you like? (Jenis musik apa yang kamu suka?)
• What book did you buy yesterday? (Buku apa yang kamu beli kemarin?)

Lalu, kita juga bisa membuat kalimat tanya tanpa menyertakan auxiliary dengan meletakkan kata kerja setelah “what”.

• What ails you? (Kamu sakit apa?)
• What makes the story interesting? (Apa yang membuat cerita itu menyenangkan?)
• What brings you here? (Apa yang membawamu kemari?)
